A Forrest Green 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport was the second car I ever owned. It was a leased vehicle got on trade for my Benz. I hated it at first because it was tall and clumsy the controls felt cheap and it didn’t have a sunroof or any of the other things I loved about the Benz.
Soon after getting the Jeep I got a new Alpine head unit, a decent sized amp and a 10″ Bazooka Sub tube. Over time I upgraded the Amp and all 4 door speakers with JL Audio units and replaced the Bazooka with two 12″ Rockford Fosgate Subs in a sealed box. I also had a few other things installed like cruse control and some aftermarket fog lights. Those things made me like the Jeep a bit more.
I always hated how slow and lumbering the jeep felt and I was mostly convinced it was due to the auto transmission just sucking the life out of the motor. I eventually got some Edlebrock shocks that tightened up the handling characteristics and made it sit slightly lower.
Despite all the stuff I didn’t like about the Jeep, there was no denying that it was a fantasticly capable vehicle in adverse weather. Some of my best memories of the Jeep were when I was in college and I used to drive right up a very steep hill and into a pedestrian only park area on the center of campus. I did this a number of times to deliver supplies for projects as well as to pickup a close friend at the doorstep of her dorm after she broke her leg.
After three years the lease was up and I decided to simply turn it in. I pulled the Subs, amp and head unit and bid it farewell.
I do believe that it was a 1999
is it now?
